Mounting Styles
Floor-mounted, overhead-braced
The most common. Pilasters anchor to the floor & tie together with a headrail.
Floor-mounted
No headrail, so the floor anchoring does all the work.
Ceiling-hung
Threaded rods by Others; easy floor cleaning, but needs structural support above the ceiling.
Floor-to-ceiling
The most rigid; anchored at both ends. Good for high-abuse rooms.
Hinges & Hardware
Wrap-around (cam) hinges
The standard. Gravity-adjusted so the door rests open or closed.
Continuous hinges
Full height, stronger + close the sightline at the hinge side.
Hardware material
Stainless steel lasts; chrome-plated zamak costs less. Check which one the spec calls for.
Privacy Configurations

Visible gaps at the door edges.
$$ No-Sightline
Continuous edge strips or rabbeted edges close the gaps.
$$$ High-Privacy
Taller panels & doors (more material, more cost) with less floor clearance, up to full-height European-style stalls.
10 4400 Fire Extinguishers (FE) & Cabinets (FEC)
The combination we see most on commercial projects, plus what changes in rated walls, kitchens & data centers.

Larsen’s MP10
10 lb multi-purpose ABC dry chemical; UL rating 4A-80B:C; about 20″ tall x 5″ diameter.
Most Common FEC
Larsen’s 2409-6R
Semi-recessed with a 2½” rolled-edge trim. Inside box 24 x 9½ x 6; outside trim 27½ x 13. Rough opening 25 x 10½ x 4 (H x W x D).
In a Rated Wall
“FS” = Fire-Rated
An “FS” prefix (Larsen’s Flame-Shield) means the cabinet is fire-rated to keep a 1- or 2-hour wall intact. It needs a slightly larger RO: FS 2409-6R is 26⅛ x 11⅝ x 4⅞; about 1⅛” taller & wider and ⅞” deeper.

Always confirm FE type & cabinet with the spec, the life-safety plan & the local fire marshal. For ADA, cabinets projecting more than 4″ need special mounting or a recessed handle. Need product data, a warranty or O&M? Ask us.
About Spec10
Built by Someone Who Has Sat in Every Seat
Brent Flaten founded Spec10 Specialty Supply in 2019. He’s a civil engineer by education, with a BS ’13 and an MS ’15 in Civil & Environmental Engineering, both with an emphasis in Construction Engineering & Management, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
He’s a Project Manager by trade, after seven years at an ENR Top 100 construction management-at-risk firm, three years with real estate developers learning the owner’s side, a year at a Design-Build firm, and some time wearing carpentry tools in the field. He knows how a project looks to the owner, the designer, the CM, a GC, and the installer(s); and he can help your team through preconstruction when you want it.
Brent also served as an Engineer Officer in the Wisconsin Army National Guard, mobilized to Kuwait in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in 2020, and reached the rank of Captain (O-3). He attended basic training at Fort Benning in 2007, commissioned through Army ROTC at UW-Madison in 2013, and served in the WI Army National Guard until 2021.
